Choosing Your *Sparkle*

That beautiful moment when your love gets down on one knee and pops the question, "Will you marry me?" The beginning of this crazy adventure we call matrimony. Sometimes it's a wonderful surprise and sometimes you already picked out exactly what you wanted in advance, like this pushy bride.

Diamonds are traditional in today's culture but they weren't always the go-to jewel for engagement rings. Originally, when engagement rings were established the Sapphire was the traditional choice of stone. Crusaders in the 1300's believed the sapphire would change in color and fade when their betrothed were unfaithful while they were out to sea.

I personally always knew I would want something different, something unlike the rest. So my eye instantly went to color when looking at rings. We both ended up deciding on an ice blue sapphire for the center stone.( My ring pictured below) Thank you Shane Co for being amazing in the assistance of my ring design.

Color just opens up an entirely new array of choices you perhaps didn't even take notice to before. Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds, Topaz, Peridot.... the list just goes on and on. Many famous brides have gone this same route of color such as Jackie Kennedy beautiful emerald engagement to Princess Diana's sapphire ring, now worn by Duchess Katherine of Cambridge. More recent celebrities such as Nicole Ritchie and Jessica Simpson each share a love for rubies, which shows in their choice of engagement rings

No matter what stone, traditional or not, pick something that symbolizes you. You will, hopefully, only get one in this lifetime and it should reflect you. The ring is your first opportunity to really customize your wedding, and make it Unique Like You.
